The title of IPL champions has been held by four different franchises since the tournament’s inception in 2008. The Mumbai Indians are the most successful team in IPL history, having won the title on five occasions. They are followed by the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders, who have both won the title twice. The Hyderabad Sunrisers were crowned champions in 2016.

IPL 2020 Champions

The 2020 IPL season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the tournament rescheduled to take place from 19 September to 8 November 2020.

The Mumbai Indians were crowned champions for a record fifth time after defeating Delhi Capitals by five wickets in the final on 8 November 2020. This was their second title in three years, having also won the 2018 edition. Rohit Sharma was named as the player of the tournament for his 548 runs while Trent Boult was named as the best bowler of the tournament for his 27 wickets.

2019 IPL Winners

The Mumbai Indians (MI) are a franchise cricket team based in Mumbai, Maharashtra that plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They were one of the nine teams to compete in the 2009 Indian Premier League and finished fifth in the league table with seven wins and seven losses. Since then, they have qualified for the 2010 Champions League Twenty20 after finishing third in 2010 IPL and won it by defeating New South Wales Blues in the final. In 2011, they qualified for CLT20 again after finishing as runners up but lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore in a close match during which they had tied on two occasions. The Indian Premier League is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India contested during April and May of every year by teams representing Indian cities. The 2016 season of the IPL was the ninth edition of the tournament. This year’s IPL saw some fresh names crowned as champions. Rising Pune Supergiants, led by captain Steve Smith, won their maiden IPL title after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 23 runs in the final at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 29, 2016.

It was a topsy-turvy season for RPS who finished second from bottom in the league stage but rose to the occasion when it mattered the most. Smith led from the front with his bat scoring 401 runs in 16 matches at an average of 44.55 which included four half-centuries. In the final, he played a crucial knocks of 51 runs off 36 balls to help his team post a competitive total of 162/4 in 20 overs.

RPS bowlers then did a brilliant job to defend the total as they restricted RCB to just 139/6 in 20 overs. pacer Jaydev Unadkat was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his exemplary bowling performance (2/25) whereas spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was named ‘Player of the Series’ for his all-round contribution with both bat and ball throughout the tournament.

In the playoffs, Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets in Qualifier 1 to advance to their sixth consecutive IPL final. Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by four wickets in Qualifier 2 to reach their fourth IPL final. In the final, played at Eden Gardens on May 24, 2015, Mumbai Indians scored 202/5 in 20 overs after being put into bat by Chennai Super Kings. In reply, Chennai Super Kings were all out for 161/8 in 19.4 overs, giving Mumbai Indians a 41-run victory and their second IPL title.

This was also Kolkata’s second consecutive loss in an IPL final.

IPL 2013 Champions

The Chennai Super Kings are the 2013 champions of the Indian Premier League. They defeated the Mumbai Indians in a thrilling final, which went down to the wire. The two teams were evenly matched throughout the tournament, and it was fitting that they should face each other in the final.

The Chennai Super Kings were led by their captain MS Dhoni, who was in scintillating form throughout the tournament. He top-scored for his team in the final, with an unbeaten 79* off just 48 balls. This was a typical Dhoni innings, full of big hits and intelligent batting. He took his team home with 14 balls to spare, and won them their second IPL title.

The Mumbai Indians put up a brave fight, but ultimately came up short. Their captain Rohit Sharma played a brilliant knock of 68* off 44 balls, but it wasn’t enough to get them over the line. Lasith Malinga bowled very well in the death overs, but he couldn’t prevent Dhoni from hitting the winning runs.

This was a great advert for the IPL, and it is clear that this tournament is here to stay. With two such evenly matched teams contesting the final, it was always going to be a close game. In the end, it was Dhoni’s experience and cool head that won his team the title.

The tournament was held from 4 April to 27 May 2012, with the first match being played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

The final was played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on 27 May 2012. Chennai Super Kings won the match by five wickets to claim their second IPL title. Suresh Raina of Chennai Super Kings was declared as the man of the match for his unbeaten half-century.

This win also meant that Chennai Super Kings became the first team in IPL history to win two titles. Mumbai Indians were the defending champions, but they failed to make it to the playoffs this year.

Delhi Daredevils were the defending champions, having won the 2010 season. A total of 60 matches were played over 37 days in nine venues across India. The top four teams qualified for the playoffs which culminated with the final on 28 May 2011.

Chennai Super Kings won their second title by defeating Mumbai Indians by 58 runs in the final, becoming the first team to ever win two Indian Premier League titles. Suresh Raina of Chennai Super Kings was declared as both Player of the Match for his match-winning century and Player of the Tournament for scoring 532 runs overall in 16 matches during the season.

The 2010 Indian Premier League season was the third season of the Indian Premier League, a professional Twenty20 cricket league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The tournament was hosted by India and had an estimated television audience of more than 500 million people. It was sponsored by DLF Group and had title sponsorship from PepsiCo. 2009 IPL Winners

The inaugural season of the Indian Premier League saw the Rajasthan Royals crowned as champions. The team, led by Shane Warne, defeated the Chennai Super Kings in the final to secure the title.

The following year, the Deccan Chargers emerged victorious, defeating the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. The 2009 season also saw the addition of two new teams – the Pune Warriors and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.

In 2010, it was the Chennai Super Kings who triumphed, this time defeating the Mumbai Indians in the final. The 2011 season saw a change in format, with 10 teams taking part in a round-robin tournament before four qualified for the semi-finals.

The Kolkata Knight Riders were crowned champions after defeating fellow finalists, the Chennai Super Kings. Gautam Gambhir was named as Player of the Tournament for his performances throughout the competition.

The 2012 season saw yet another change in format, with each team playing each other twice in a double round-robin tournament before four qualified for the play-offs.

Once again, it was Chennai who prevailed in the final, this time beating table-toppers Delhi Daredevils to lift their second IPL title. MS Dhoni was once again named Player of tournament for his outstanding displays with both bat and ball throughout proceedings.
